Christ the Redeemer is one of the recent Seven Wonders of the World. Christ the Redeemer is a statue of Jesus Christ in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. It is considered the largest Art Deco statue in the world and the world’s 5th largest statue of Jesus Christ. It is 130 ft. tall, including its 31 ft. pedestal, and 98 ft. wide. It weighs 635 Tonnes and is located at the peak of 2,300 ft. CorcovadoMountain in the Tijuca Forest National Park. The statue has become an icon of Rio and Brazil. It is made of reinforced concrete and soapstoneand was constructed between 1922 and 1931. I visited Rio in the year 2001 while attending the ICAO Conference and was astonished to see the Statue which attracts lot of tourists. Rio’s other attractions are unique in nature. Samba dances and soccer are popular items of interest amongst the people. I had the occasion to visit other places of interest.
